As your week ends, ask yourself:

What has occupied me in the past days?
In my life do my occupations (and preoccupations)
allow me to engage in my Father’s business?

St Ignatius, writing from Rome in July 1556, shares some practical points to Jesuit Fr Fulvio Androzzi on how to manage busy days given the latter’s many apostolic commitments. For people whose schedules are always full and whose time is never enough, these are words of wisdom:

“If you are very busy,
you should make a choice
and employ yourself
in the more important occupations
where there is greater service of God,
greater spiritual advantage for the neighbor,
and the more general or perfect good.

Keeping a little time
to put order in yourself
and your activities will be
of considerable help
to you in this respect…

May God grant us all
His grace always to know
and to do His will.”
