Call for Nominations – The 2014 Xavier-Kuangchi Award for Exemplary Alumni

The Xavier School Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the call for nomination for the 2014 Xavier-Kuangchi Award for Exemplary Alumni.

This annual tribute provides the school with an opportunity to recognize exemplary alumni who can serve as role models to inspire all Xaverians to lead similarly exemplary lives.

The Xavier-Kuangchi Award for Exemplary Alumni was established to honor the alumnus who clearly manifests the attributes that define the Xavier Ideal of “men fully alive endowed with a passion for justice and the skills for development.” This Xaverian has made the most of his talents and resources and, through service and leadership, has had a positive impact in his community and to society in general.

He embodies, to an outstanding degree the 6 C’s that characterize the Xavier graduate: Competence, Character, Conscience, Compassion, Culture and Community.

The award is named after St. Francis Xavier and Paul Hsü Kuangchi (徐光啓), from whom the school takes its English and Chinese names, respectively. St. Francis is esteemed by the Church as the greatest missionary after St. Paul, a stature achieved despite his less-than-suitable disposition early in life. It was his unparalleled zeal to bring the light of Christ to the world that should inspire each Xaverian to be, in his personal way, a witness to the Faith.

Paul Hsü Kuangchi, on the other hand, is a highly respected court official whose scholarly work, openness to foreign culture, and concern for his countrymen resulted in great and meaningful contributions to the development of China. His support of the Church was invaluable to the Jesuits’ apostolic work in China. He is arguably the greatest Chinese Christian to date. Both men combined create a peerless paradigm for all Xavier graduates.

Nomination forms are available at the Development and Alumni Relations Office (DARO) and is available for download. These must be submitted, together with the requested documents on or before October 25, 2013.
