23 September 2013
Dear Members of the Xavier School Community,
On October 5, Saturday, I will preside at the usual First Saturday Family Mass and use the occasion to mark the First Death Anniversary of Fr. Ismael Zuloaga, SJ (passed away 8 October 2012), our former School Director and Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
We will also pray for Fr. John Chi Shen-chung (齊慎終 神父), who served at Xavier School for 16 years in the 1960s-70s and was general editor of the set of Chinese textbooks that the school used until the 1990s. To this day, a line from one of Fr. Chi’s books is still taught at Xavier: 好的開始是成功的一半 (A good beginning makes up half of one’s success.). Fr. Chi died at the Jesuit infirmary in Taipei last July 16, aged 89.
After the Mass, Fr. Zuloaga’s name tablet will be permanently displayed at the Administration Building walkway, together with those of our other deceased former school directors, Fr. Jean Desautels SJ, and Fr. Eugene Moran SJ. This altar will be installed in front of the bust of Fr. Desautels, our school founder. In this simple manner, we will honor the memory of the school’s spiritual ancestors.
The respective Executive Committees of the Alumni Association of Xavier School (AAXS) and the Xavier School Parents’ Auxiliary will sponsor the Mass, to be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Angelo King Multi-Purpose Center. All are invited to join the Jesuit community and Fr. Zuloaga’s many friends and collaborators in marking his first death anniversary.
Thank you very much.
Fr. Aristotle C. Dy, SJ
