Last September 7, 2013 was the championship game between two great teams in the PAYA D-League (born) 2002, Ateneo and Xavier School.  It was a fight whether XS would retain the championship or Ateneo would be crowned as new champions.

When the game started, Xavier’s starting five players were able to score the first two points and lots more.  Xavier was also able to limit Ateneo to zero in the 1st quarter.  In the second quarter, Ateneo was able to score the first two points but Xavier was already leading way ahead.  Xavier also scored most of their points in the second quarter, mostly by three-pointers and fast break points.  In the third quarter, Xavier did the same thing as in the second quarter but Ateneo started scoring back.  In the fourth quarter, Ateneo started gaining their momentum but it wasn’t enough to catch up and beat Xavier.  So when the final buzzer sounded, Xavier was so happy because they are now back-to-back champions.  All their practices paid off and they were able to display great teamwork which led them to victory.

On behalf of the team, the writer expresses his  thanks to the team members for all their hard work and to the coaches:  Coach Jojo Imutan, Coach Glenn Gacutan and Coach John Sy.  The writer also thanks the organizers of the PAYA D-League, Mr. Angelito Santiago and  Mr. Jane Agcaoili of the Athletics Office.  Finally, the writer thanks his and all the parents of the team for their unconditional love and support for them in the sport.
