Danum: National Children’s Biennial Exhibit

By Ms. Carmela Angeles, GS Art Teacher

The Philippine Art Educators Association in cooperation with the Cultural Center of the Philippines recently opened an exhibit entitled “Danum”, which is an Ilocano word meaning water, to commemorate its 45th founding anniversary. The exhibit highlights water as the very essence of life. It showcases the visual imageries of water, from the bountiful harvests, to the appreciation of its wonder and uses, tragic results of apathy, and hopeful dreams for tomorrow.

Featured in the exhibit are the canvas banner of eighteen Grade 4 students entitled “Water Blues,” with inspiration taken from a work by Bridget Riley as assisted by Ms. Carmela Angeles, and the net banner of the Grade 2 students with fish mobiles entitled “Biyaya ng Dagat” as assisted by Mr. Jon Valenzuela.

The exhibit which will run until March 2, 2014 is located at the Bulwagang Carlos V. Francisco (Little Theatre Lobby) and Pasilyo Guillermo Tolentino (3F Hallway Gallery) at the CCP Main Theatre Building, Roxas Boulevard in Pasay City.
