Subject :                 Novena of Grace Mass, Ash Wednesday & Campuswide Way of the Cross

From March 4 to 12 (except on Ash Wednesday and during the weekend), we shall once again hold the Novena of Grace in honor of St Francis Xavier during the 6:45am school Mass. This novena invokes the special intercession of our school patron for our various personal and community needs.

This tradition in Jesuit schools and institutions started in Goa, India in the 1600s when a boy, crippled since birth, was miraculously healed through Xavier’s intercession. To highlight this devotion, we will revive the practice of celebrating the novena Masses at the statue of St Francis Xavier near MPC.

On March 5, to formally open the Lenten season, we shall have an Ash Wednesday Mass for each unit: 7:45am for the High School at the HS Gym with Fr Sigmund de Guzman,SJ and 10:15am for the Grade School at the Sports Center with Fr Arturo Borja,SJ. In these Masses, ashes will be blessed and imposed on our foreheads.

On March 7, Friday at 3:00 pm, we begin a new tradition, the schoolwide Way of the Cross. Fourteen stations will be set up around the campus for the prayerful procession. This is a voluntary activity but various sectors of the community – students, faculty, staff, alumni and XSPA officers — have been invited to sponsor the stations.

The procession begins at the 1st Station set up in the Early Education Department. After the 14th Station at the Sacred Heart Garden (near the old HS chapel site), Jesuit priests will be available for those who wish to go to confession.

As we prepare for the season of Lent, may these celebrations and devotions help us embrace the spirit of prayer and penance.

Luceat Lux! Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam!
