Mr. Frederick S. Perez, Xavier School Nuvali English and Filipino Department head, was elected into the Reading Association of the Philippines’ Board last May 17 during the organization’s national convention from May 15- 17, 2014 held at the Philippine International Convention Center.
Mr. Perez attended RAP’s leadership training and its national convention entitled “Integrating the New Literacies in the K-12 Curriculum” which gathered kindergarten, elementary and secondary school teachers from the public and private schools, pre-service teachers, administrators, supervisors, language specialists and researchers.
This year’s convention aimed at enabling educators to acquire a broader perspective of the new literacies and their relevance in the 21st century life, develop a heightened awareness of how new literacies can be integrated in the curriculum, across levels and subject areas, engage in discussions on how to plan lessons to develop learners’ new literacies, and use appropriate strategies to achieve learning outcomes targeted in the K-12 curriculum.
Before the end of the convention, RAP members elected six new board members to join their roster of leaders.
Mr. Perez, an advocate of adolescent literacy and emergent literacies, joins the rank of the country’s premier literacy advocates in promoting literacy across the nation. He will serve in the RAP Board until 2017.
