Xavier School Nuvali had its first Leadership Training Seminar (LTS) for the newly-elected officers last July 11-12 on campus. Even though this is the second year that the school had elected homeroom officers, this is only the first time the school held the LTS.

Nine sets of officers from grades 4-9 came together last Friday afternoon for the LTS. To get everybody settled and comfortable with each other, volunteer facilitators Ms. Gail Ang and Ms. Arzy Manlangit conducted an icebreaker activity, which, in turn, prepared everybody for the keynote speakers for the night. The first speaker was Mr. Delson Balance, and he was followed by Mr. Allen Silvano. Both are former Xavier School alumni, Xavier Awardees, and Xavier educators. Mr. Balance talked about the traits of a leader, which was a precursor to Mr. Silvano’s talk on the C’s of being a leader.

After a short break, campus minister Fr. Xavier Olin, S.J. gave the students a thought-provoking talk on Ignatian leadership. He challenged the young student leaders to be creative in their leadership, among many things he challenged them to do. He then led the community in an intimate and solemn sit-down mass where he gave a special blessing to the officers.

Aside from the sit-down mass, another highlight of the LTS was the chance of the officers to bond with their Grade 8 brothers from San Juan who were on campus for their overnight recollection. From sundown to sun up, students from both campuses were able to hang out with each other and learn about each other.

The next day, more team building activities and break-out sessions kept the students busy as they learned more about the different positions they occupy. Guest facilitators Mrs. Juen Quiambao, Mr. Marvin Ong, Mr. Mike Del Mundo, Ms. Arzy Manlangit, and Mr. Darrel Marco shared their experiences and insight regarding the different roles. The last session was the preparation of the officers’ commitment letter, which Grade 9 president Sandy Concepcion read to the student body during the general assembly on July 14, Monday.

The main organizers for the LTS were school principal Mrs. Arlene Choo, acting head for the Student Activities Program Mrs. Kristelle Ortiz, and Council of Student Leaders moderators Ms. Ria Marifosque and Mr. Marck San Juan. The team thanks the community and speakers for their participation and support to ensure the proper formation of the school’s newest young leaders.
