On August 29, 2014, the Xavier High School community congregated at the Jacinto Tiu Competition Court to participate in the annual Pep Rally, which was thoroughly organized by our very own Blue and Gold Committee. Waves of students quickly poured into the gym wearing Xavier-themed shirts all throughout.

As the last few sections settled into their assigned areas, the hosts of the event, Ryan De Los Reyes and Alejandro Dy, gave a short introduction. Meanwhile, special guest Jeanine Tsoi, a courtside UAAP reporter for La Salle, was invited to host alongside the two Xavier students.

To begin the event, every Xaverian participated in an inter-batch cheering competition. Each batch, when acknowledged, had to produce the loudest cheer in order to win. Batches were assigned the cheers “Xavier, Let’s Go,” “Laban Xavier, Laban,” or “Guang Qi Bi Sheng.” Although everyone displayed energy and synergy through their cheers, the Grade 8 and Grade 10 really cheered their hearts out, thus earning them a casual pass for a day.

Dance X then captured the crowd’s attention with their incredibly skillful and entertaining dance number. Dance X members certainly channeled the spirit of the event by successfully integrating lively and energetic moves into their performance.

Each sports team was highlighted; they all put on special displays of their talent that characterized their respective sports. Also, during this pep rally, not only were the team captains of each team introduced to the Xavier community, but their talented coaches and assistant coaches were also acknowledged and given the credit they definitely deserve.

What succeeded the showcasing of each individual sports team was an inspirational talk by Olympic swimmer, Mr. Ryan Arabejo. He spoke about the numerous challenges he had faced throughout the process of his early years of training and how he was able to overcome these obstacles. Through his talk, he displayed fervent determination and provided possible solutions to the struggles that every athlete may eventually encounter.

The passing of the torch, succeeding Mr. Arabejo’s speech, was led by numerous team captains in order to introduce the athletes’ pledging ceremony. Every Xaverian athlete pledged to perform with the utmost quality, ability, and skill, in their respective sports while proudly carrying the name of the school. The spectators, who were undoubtedly of equal importance, were also asked to support the school’s athletes and show continuous school spirit and pride.

As our Xavier athletes commence their varsity seasons, let us come together as a Xavier community and cheer them on as they take on a multitude of struggles, challenges, and hopefully, victories. Xavier varsity season 2014 has officially begun! Luceat Lux!
