The short speech below was delivered by Mrs. Clarisse A. Ednacot, GS English Department Chair, last September 29 during the Grade School General Assembly at the Sports Center.
The month of OCTOBER. What makes this month special? Is it because we celebrate International World Teachers’ day on October 5? Is it because United Nations Day is on October 24? Is it because the NBA season begins in October? Is it because of the semestral break? Is it because of Halloween on the 31st?
These are all great events and holidays, but here in Xavier School, October is special for two reasons: first, October is the month of the Rosary and related to that is the practice of wearing the October medal. Aside from that, it is special because we have a whole month to celebrate Literacy!
The English department, with the help of all your teachers and staff, have prepared many activities for you this month. One of the big events to look forward to is the Jazz Up Your WORD-Robe parade this coming October 13. You’ll hear more of that from your English teachers this week. Kinder, Grades 1, and 2 will have different grade level activities which include storytelling and other classroom activities during English. A well-loved activity that we are bringing back is the Evening With Storytellers for Grades 3 and 4 students on October 17. Grade 5 will be having a quiz bee during English period, and finally Grade 6 will Meet the Author: Scott Lee Chua of High 3H.
For now, let me leave you with some of the English department-sponsored Supervised Lunch Activities you can look forward to for the month of October beginning this Thursday, October 2:
- Film viewing
- Puppet Show
- Spelling BEEngo!
- And a presentation from the booklovers club
So make your October more than OK! Make it an outstanding one by joining us on an enjoyable yet educational adventure during the Literacy Month!
