Approximately 26 students from different Chinese schools all over Metro Manila qualified for the event “BEE A Spelling Champ,” a spelling bee competition held last October 18, 2014. The event was organized by the YMCA youth club members and held at the Manila Downtown YMCA auditorium in Sta Cruz, Manila.

A team of three — Matthew Shawn Tansiongkun (6F), Jose Cedrick Que Pua (6A), and Lorenzo Teh (6C) — alongside their coaches Mrs. Zarah Berras and Ms. Joy Ann Kiocho represented Xavier School San Juan. Their coaches’ goals were to expand the students’ vocabulary, practice common spelling patterns, and increase students’ confidence in using the English language.

In the said event, Lorenzo Teh reached the finals and bagged the 2nd place award giving Xavier another reason to be proud of its students.
