The Xavier School Batch 83 Foundation, together with Batch 89, sponsored a Christmas party for the Grade School scholars of ERDA Sabana, Tondo last December 14, 2014. Seventy-five children encompassing Grades 1 to 4 attended the event.
Seeing the faces of these children light up is a joy to behold. Knowing that simple things – a McDonalds meal, toys and entertainment – are all it takes to brighten their lives specially as Christmas draws near.
The program included an art contest with the theme “Ang Tunay na Diwa ng Pasko” where 10 outstanding art works received cash prizes. The top prize went to a Grade 2 student who drew a Christmas tree and each ornament bore a wish: Makatapos ng pagaaral (To be able to finish my studies), Mag kabati ng sila mama at papa (Mom and dad will be friends again), magandang laruan (nice toy), buong pamilya (complete family), walang away (no fighting), magandang damit (beautiful clothes)… So heartwarming to hear from a Grade 2 boy.
There was entertainment in the form of parlor games, dance exhibition with the Go Tian brothers, and the ERDA mascots performing a dance-a-long number.
Lunch was served and the Xavier alumni and their families helped out with the distribution of the McDonald’s meal.
After lunch, each scholar got a “Christmas Pail” from the group. ERDA staff and facilitators were surprised that they too got one.
We see the happy faces of the children and heave a sigh of relief that despite the hardships that their families endure, day to day, these kids truly know the real meaning of Christmas.
