The 1st ever Southeast Asia Pacific Fencing Championships and the ASEAN Fencing Championships was held in Pasig City, Philippines from April 20-29, 2015.
Xavier’s very own Kyle Patrick Go (incoming Gr11), son of Mr. and Mrs. Buboy Go (XS ’87), participated in the international tournament. Go, who has been fencing for roughly two years now, trained rigorously for the event — twice a day, every day for two weeks.
In an interview with Go, he mentioned that during the competition, he faced some difficulties catching up in the first round, but he was able to bounce back during the direct eliminations. He won silver at the individual event and overall gold for the team event. Afterwards, he felt kind of relieved that half of the tension was gone. Go admits that he did not do so well in the second half of the tournament, or the older division.
Go shared this message to the readers: “If i have anything to say, it would be what my friends and family told me. That winning and losing don’t matter, it’s the fun that does.”
Other Xaverians who participated in the event include Diego Achacoso (Bronze medalist in Epée cadets team), Carl Cham (Bronze medalist in Epée cadets team), and Psalm Co (Bronze medalist in Foil cadets team).
Xavier School is proud of all of you! Luceat lux!
