On August 10, 2015, Xavier School Nuvali had its first Student Council Elections. Grades 7 through 10 elected their executive student leaders: Gyuri Cruz (G10A) as President, David Santiago (G9A) as Internal Vice President and Ronan Ibuna (G9B) as External Vice President. Each executive leader plays a significant role in making our beloved school a little bit better.
All students from Grade 7 until Grade 10 had the opportunity to choose the student leaders whom they thought were right for the task. We exercised our right to choose our representatives, the people we felt would carry out the task of leadership to the best of their abilities. In order to make an informed choice, August 3 to 7 were days allotted for campaigning. Candidates used this time to explain to all the students what their plans were and what they would do when elected.
When election day finally came, it was not easy to choose among those who were running. It was important for all the students to consider whom they would trust to be their first set of leaders. Based on the merits of their campaign, the three new elected leaders were chosen. In my opinion, it was good that we were allowed to choose our own student leaders from those who expressed their desire to be of service to the students. It gave us a glimpse of what it is like to have the power to put leaders in positions they deserve. One can only hope that that we carry out the same value of platform-based elections once we get the chance to vote in the Local Government and National Elections one day.
Aside from all of this, the student council has already started planning various activities for this school year — although we want it to be a surprise for all of you, so stay tuned!
