With the coming of January, the communities in Pandacan become alive with various preparations for the feast of the Holy Child or Santo Nino. Here and there, residents hang buntings and banners. Band members practice every now and then for the upcoming procession.
In ERDA Tech, selected faculty, staff, and students rehearse for the Buling-Buling dance which will be held on Saturday, January 16.
In anticipation of the feast also, the school community gathered on Wednesday, January 13 for a mass concelebrated by Xavier School San Juan Campus Minister Fr. Xavier Olin, SJ and Xavier School Chaplain and resident ERDA Tech priest Fr. Munching de Guzman, SJ.
Before the start of the mass, eight students performed the Sinulog dance which is the trademark Cebuano dance for the Santo Nino to add to the spirit of the occasion. Among the dancers were James Rohbin Besa, Yllene Allexandra Molina, Jerome Michael Peralta, and Angela Rose Baluyot of grade 9 as well as Lanz Kairo Aquino, Shane Steffanie Allera, Gabriel Ignacio, and Cazeelyn Briones of grade 10.
After the mass, Fr, Xave and Fr. Munching blessed the different images of the Santo Nino brought by the members of the school community.
The various preparations and celebrations indeed show the deep devotion of the Pandaquenos in general and the ERDAnians in particular to the Santo Nino. Their resolve to become more childlike and Christ-like is once more strengthened.
