XSGV Juniors Bagged 2nd Runner Up in the 2015 ICTSI-JGFP Golf Tournament

by Matthew Gue, H4H IB
The XSGV Junior Team is composed of High 4 students Matthew Gue and Louie Lagon, Grade 11 students Kendrick Diaz, Quito Diaz and Jacob Yulo, Grade 10 students Matthew Dybuncio, Nathan Kawpeng and Matthew Roxas, and Grade 9 student Vince Ngo.

With the success of the Xavier School Golf Varsity (XSGV) teams in the Aspirants Division and in the Development League, the XSGV Juniors capped the year 2015 with a second runner up finish in the recently concluded 2015 ICTSI-Junior Golf of the Philippines Golf Tournament which was participated in by 12 teams from various high schools in Metro Manila.  The XSGV Juniors finished with a best four-game aggregate team score of 486, edging its nearest rival De La Salle Zobel Team B by 8 points.

The Xavier team managed to overcome various obstacles in the said tournament.  Initially, two High 4 team members had to sit out the first game due to a college entrance exam. Subsequently one team member had to miss out two games as per doctor’s advice due to fever, while another team member had to miss out the last two games due to attendance in the Xavier China Experience (XCE) program last October.

Overall, it was a highly satisfactory finish for the XSGV Juniors as all team members pitched in and contributed in the team score to help achieve their second runner up finish for the school.  With the said achievement, the team is now preparing to compete for the Finals to be held on January 18-19, 2016 at the Orchard Golf and Country Club.
