On Wednesday, June 15, 2016, the Father Pierre Tritz Institute – ERDA Tech community welcomed the new school year with its traditional Red Mass, also known as the Mass of the Holy Spirit. Father Aristotle Dy, SJ, president of Xavier School San Juan, Xavier School Nuvali, and FPTI-ERDA Tech, was the main celebrant. Concelebrating the mass were Father Art Borja, SJ, Xavier School Chaplain; Father Xavier Olin, SJ, Xavier School Campus Minister, and Father Sigmund “Munching” de Guzman, SJ, ERDA Tech Chaplain.
In his homily, Father Art Borja talked about the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Citing the gift of wisdom, he told the community about the story of the priest and the flood. The priest was telling the congregation not to be afraid and to ask the Lord’s help during the onslaught of a strong typhoon. When flood warnings were sent out, the people fled as quickly as they could, but the priest stood firm in the church, believing that God would save him. As the floodwaters rose, the people who were leaving called out to the priest to join them to a safer place, but the priest chose to stay put, until finally, the floodwaters swept him away. When he was face to face with God, he asked why God did not help him, and God said that He sent help through the people who were asking him to come with them to escape the flood. The story shows that one must be able to see the signs that God is sending. To be able to do this, one must discern and reflect well on God’s will.
