Being a Jesuit school, Father Pierre Tritz Institute – ERDA Tech celebrated the feast day of the founder of the Society of Jesus, Saint Ignatius of Loyola on July 27, just a few days before the official date of the feast day, July 31.
The day’s celebration started with a mass presided by visiting priest Fr. Chrys Exaltacion, SJ and the Campus Chaplain, Fr. Munching de Guzman, SJ. The mass highlighted the essence of St. Ignatius’s faith, works, and discernment with an inspiring homily by Fr. Chrys. The presence of St. Ignatius’s image, courtesy of Xavier School San Juan, made the mass more meaningful and special for the whole school community.
After the Mass, the outgoing officers of the Student Body Organization (SBO) and Parents Auxiliary were acknowledged and the incoming set had their oath-taking in the presence of Mr. Peter Marc Magsalin, the school principal. Likewise, Mujahid M. Basiman of Grade 11 – Saint Lorenzo Ruiz, the new SBO President led the new homeroom class officers in their oath-taking.
In addition, the winners and participants of the drawing competition about the life of Saint Ignatius were acknowledged and awarded. The students received special souvenir items given by Fr. Ari Dy, SJ, the president of ERDA Tech, Xavier School San Juan, and Xavier School Nuvali. These items came from Loyola, Spain where Fr. Dy, together with Xavier faculty, parents, and alumni went on a pilgrimage just this summer.
It was then followed by the renaming of the patio as Saint Ignatius Hall, in honor of the great and faithful saint, after which the community surprised Fr. Munching with a belated birthday song and a cake for his special day.
Everyone was then treated to free spaghetti at the canteen, courtesy of Xavier School Nuvali under the able leadership of its principal, Mrs. Arlene Choo.
The day’s highlight was the screening of the movie “Ignacio de Loyola” which took place at SM Manila. The movie gave a view of Saint Ignatius’s humanity, will, and faith as he journeyed toward the light of God. The whole community was not only able to see but, more significantly, also feel the passion of Saint Ignatius . Some were teary-eyed and some were amazed at the strong faith of Saint Ignatius as the movie ended with the crowd’s applause.
The ERDA Tech community felt blessed and thankful for the wonderful and enlightening celebration of the feast of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. It was also, indeed, a celebration of their love, faith, and connection with God.
