Members of the Xavier School Batch 83 Foundation, led by President Alvin Co and Secretary-General Richard Sy-Facunda distributed gift bags to the nurses and staff of different wards at the Philippine General Hospital last December 11, 2016.
The activity was preceded by donation of medicines to Fr. Maximo Barbero, S.J who is a long time mentor of the batch.
Happy faces greeted the members as they proceeded from ward to ward going to the least visited parts of the hospital. Ward 5 – Department of Neuroscience and the Department of Rehabilitation, Ward 6 – Department of Surgery and Ward 7 – Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science. These wards are home to the charity patients who avail of the best medical help the Philippines has to offer. Of course a visit to the staff of the Central Intensive Care unit is a must since it houses one of the Tsikiting Centers of the Foundation.
The nurses, nurse-aids, bantay, and manong of each unit are the unsung heroes of the hospital. They provide the basic support for a patient’s stay at the institution. Although doctors determine the disease, it’s the nurses who make sure you take your medication and whose bearing and countenance are key factors for your full recovery.
