Alumnus Harvey Mateo (XS ‘91) ordained as a Jesuit Priest

Cardinal Tagle ordained Xavier alumnus Harvey Mateo (XS ’91)

Another Xaverian light has shone upon the Society of Jesus as new priests were ordained last Saturday, June 3, 2017. Harvey S. Mateo of batch ‘91 was ordained by Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, along with three other Jesuits.

Fr. Aristotle Dy, SJ, President of Xavier School, expressed his congratulatory message and support for Fr. Mateo’s new mission through Facebook. Fr. Ari also posted a challenge for Xaverians — “Who will be the next X-J (Xaverian Jesuit)?”

Among the Xaverian Jesuits are Fr. Danny Huang (XS ‘76), Fr. Johnny Go (XS ‘79), Fr. Peter Pojol (XS ‘85), and Fr. Ari Dy. Fr. Harvey, as the fifth Xaverian Jesuit, will spend his first mission in Zamboanguita, Bukidnon as the School Director of Saint Isidore High School, and assistant Parish Priest of the community.

Fr. Harvey is a Psychology graduate from the University of the Philippines and took up Medicine at the UP-PGH. The call of priesthood came to him when he was having a medical training in Houston. He joined the Jesuit candidacy at Arvisu House in January 2006, and later entered the Jesuit novitiate May of the same year.
