Called to be Friends in the Lord – Feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola

31 July 2017

Dear Members of the Xavier Family,

The theme for this year’s celebration of the feast of St Ignatius Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, is “Called to be Friends in the Lord.”  This recalls the deep friendship that St Ignatius had with the First Companions such as St Francis Xavier and St Peter Faber, a friendship born out of common love for the Lord and service for God’s greater glory.

This is the same kind of friendship we are called to today, at a time when many forces of hatred and division threaten our common humanity and distract from the urgent task of building a more loving and merciful world.

May the example of St Ignatius and all his friends in the Lord, including all of us, inspire us towards respect for and dialogue with all God’s children.

Happy Feastday!
