XS ’83’s Annual Aeta Mission

by Mr. Richard Sy-Facunda (XS '83)

Last Sunday, October 8, 2017, members of the Xavier School Batch ’83 Foundation led by Vice President Michael Ng and Sec-Gen. Richard Sy-Facunda, AAXS President Reginald Yu (XS ’84), members of XSARC, members of the Lingkod Committee of Xavier School led by Atom von Monfero, doctors from the Armed Forces of the Philippines under Gen. Peter Suchianco and family members trooped to Subic for its annual Aeta Mission.

Due to the overwhelming response from the “Aetas Got Talent!” last year, XS ’83 continued with the program this year presenting “Aetas Got Talent 2!” This year instead of only a singing contest the Aetas could join three different categories – song, dance and art!

Former teachers of XS ’83 including Ms. Eleanor Estor, Ms. Jane Ching and Ms. Rachel Tayengco, together with Ms. Allyn Go Tian, Administrative Assistant of DARO and Mr. Reginald Yu (XS ’84), President of AAXS served as the jurors. Nokky Huab of XS ’83 was the rib-tickling emcee – never was there a dull moment!

This is the third year that Xavier student-volunteers from the Lingkod Committee helped out with the Aeta Missions of XS ’83. Special mention goes to Nathan Te (G12) for joining us for three consecutive years. Kampai! Students were assigned to take vital signs including blood pressure and temperature while other assisted in the registration and dispensing of medicines. Another group of students helped out with the participants for the art contest.  Dr. Edgar Eufemio, and Dr. Arturo Uy, both of XS ’83 together with the doctors from the AFP gave out referrals to those patient in need. Vitamins supplements were given to all.

What a fulfilling Sunday it was!  We came home visibly tired but the excitement and all the happy faces remain etched in our minds.
